Morgan to be Inducted into Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame

PHILADELPHIA - Christy Morgan, Seoul 1988 Olympian and member of the U.S. Women's National Team from 1982 to 1990, is one of 16 individuals and two teams in the 2025 induction class of the Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame.

The 2025 inductees are Virginia Allen, Lynne Carter, Mary Ellen Clark, Eddie Coyle, Paul Holmgren, Dick Jerardi, Allen Lewis, Jeff Lurie, Christy Morgan (field hockey), Dwight Muhammad Qawi, Clyde Simmons, Bo Roberson, Mendy Rudolph, Mike Rozier, Roy Thomas, Gary Williams, and the 1925 Darby Hilldales Negro League Champions and 1985 Villanova NCAA Men's Basketball Champions.

The newest members will be officially inducted and honored in a ceremony on Thursday, November 6, 2025 at the Event Center at Live! Casino and Hotel in Philadelphia, Pa. The event will start at 5:30 p.m. ET with hors d'oeuvres and a VIP gourmet dinner reception, followed by the induction ceremony at 7:00 p.m ET. A native of Norristown, Pa., Christy Morgan captured three national championships as an athlete at Old Dominion University (1982, 1983, 1984), played on the U.S. Women's National Team for nine years (1982-1990), and has been a coach over the past three decades.

The former three-time All-American (1982-1984) was named the Honda Broderick Award winner all three seasons, and in all four of her college seasons, she was named to the NCAA All-Tournament team. During her time with Team USA, Morgan played in the 1983 and 1986 World Cups and the Seoul 1988 Olympic Games, while serving as an alternate at the Los Angeles 1984 Olympic Games.

Across her time as the head coach of James Madison University (1991-1999, 2014-present), Morgan led the Dukes to the school's first NCAA title in 1994 and has accumulated a record of 250-164-2 (.603). She was named the NCAA South Region Coach of the Year and CAA Coach of the Year in 1993, and was an assistant coach with the U.S. U-21 Women's National Team in 1995 and 1996. Her athletes won All-America honors 19 times, and midfielder Carole Thate was the 1996 winner of the Honda Award for the NCAA's top field hockey player. 

Morgan is also a member of the Old Dominion Sports Hall of Fame (1990), USA Field Hockey Hall of Fame (2004), JMU Athletics Hall of Fame (2004) and the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Hall of Fame (2023).
