by USA Field Hockey

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – USA Field Hockey will be promoting the growth of school-based field hockey at the 2023 California Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (CAHPERD) Convention in Santa Clara, Calif., starting today and running through March 11.

USA Field Hockey’s Boys Development Manager and LA28 Field Hockey Representative Marc Bakerman will be onsite to promote the sport as a healthy and fun activity and Olympic Sport. The 2023 CAHPERD will feature move than 1,000 professionals involved in school-based health, physical education and physical activity, who are dedicated to teaching and promoting active, healthy lifestyles. Bakerman will be networking with these educators from across the state to promote and grow field hockey as a sport for all, sport for life.

“This conference is a key development function for us to attend; especially this year as California is a focus area for boys and girls development as we strive to grow field hockey opportunities in California in advance of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games,” said Bakerman. “We have resources and specially designed equipment for PE classes to make it easy and affordable for physical education teachers to add hockey to their curriculum, even if they have no experience with the game.”

USA Field Hockey’s specially designed equipment includes both plastic and wood sticks in sizes starting at just 24”, and GO Balls, which are larger, lighter-weight balls perfect for beginners playing indoors or outdoors. Sets are sold in packs of 30 sticks and balls and come with a carrying bag. Additionally, USA Field Hockey’s GO Cards feature 50 games to play to introduce hockey in a fun and turnkey way. All are available for purchase online in the USA Field Hockey Equipment Store.

USA Field Hockey believes introducing field hockey as a school-based activity in physical education classes and after-school programming is instrumental in growing the sport. Schools, as other multi-sport organizations such as parks and recreation organizations and YMCA’s, provide affordable and accessible opportunities for boys and girls of all ages and abilities to try sports and other activities, encouraging kids to lead healthy and active lifestyles. In California, USA Field Hockey has a strong partnership with LA Recreation and Parks and is expanding hockey opportunities throughout LA and the state.
