Preperation for MWC After Selection #
After the May MWC Selection Tournament occurs and teams have been announced, additional training sessions to prepare for the MWC will be determined through collaboration with coaches and players. Adult tournament and training weekends will be announced as they are confirmed.
For Masters athletes who are not named to a MWC team, domestic playing opportunities will be shared.
FAQ#
Masters age groups for the 2024 MWC exist in 5-year increments beginning at 35 years old based on your age by 12/31/2024. A player born in 1989 or before is eligible to play in the over 35 (O-35) group. A player born in 1964 or before is eligible to play in over 60 group (O-60).
Masters players are self-funded. The cost of participating includes: tournament entry fees, practice facility fees on site before tournament, uniform and kit and any personal equipment, lodging, meals, and transportation (airfare and ground). Players also fund the coach, manager, physical therapist, and athletic trainer expenses (for economy travel, shared lodging, and per diem).
Based on past tournaments, the total cost is approximately $2,000 to $3,000 plus airfare. Additional travel/lodging expenses associated with domestic events for selection and practices should also be considered.
Efforts are made to minimize these costs through Masters volunteer-led committees who seek out economic group options for lodging and transportation in the host country and fundraising/sponsorship campaigns.
An alternate selection process will be available for those unable to attend any of the events. This process will involve submission of a resume, references, and, for players who have not competed with a Masters team before, a skills demonstration video. Individuals opting for alternate selection still incur an application fee.
