Watching her older sister, Laura, play field hockey in junior high was all the inspiration Sharkey needed to get hooked on the sport. Eventually hitting around in her backyard at home translated into Sharkey being dubbed as the Division I Leading Goal Scorer for the 2010 and 2012 seasons while at Princeton University. Since being named to the U.S. Women's National Team in 2011, Sharkey has rejoined her former Tiger Teammates Katie and Julia Reinprecht as U.S. Teammates. Sharkey's sheer speed and athleticism have made her a force to be reckoned with as part of Team USA's attack and she has made her presence known on the pitch as a member of the 2014 Champions Challenge gold medal team and the 2014 Rabobank Hockey World Cup squad that impressed the globe with a fourth place finish.
