Frequently Asked Questions

How often does the USA Field Hockey Board meet?

In general, the Board holds virtual meetings once a month, in addition to three in-person board meetings per year. Board Members also serve on various committees (i.e. Nominating, Finance and Audit, Member Services, Judicial, Ethics, etc.) which meet intermittently - usually by video call - as needed. Travel expenses and overnight accommodations are reimbursed by the organization.

Do Board Members oversee the professional staff?

The Board hires, manages and evaluates the Executive Director only. This is not an operational board, but rather one that is concerned with formalizing a strategic plan and charging the Executive Director with implementation.

Do I need to be a member of USA Field Hockey?

Yes! Board applicants must be a dues-paying member of USA Field Hockey, at least 18 years old and a U.S. Citizen. Field hockey playing/coaching experience is not necessary, but familiarity with the sport and the structure is very helpful. By design, some of the 15 board members specifically represent athletes, coaches, and umpires. At-Large and Independent Board seats are open to all USA Field Hockey members in good standing over 18 years of age.

How are Board Members selected?

Interested candidates should submit an application with a personal statement and resume by May 21, 2025, through the above links for the application.

For Independent Directors, the Nominating Committee considers the candidates through telephone interviews, and appoints the Independent Directors to be elected from among the nominated individuals considered to be independent, as defined in Section 5.6 in the Bylaws.

For At-Large Directors, the Nominating Committee vets the candidates through telephone interviews, and provides a slate of three candidates for each open At-Large Board seat for the Board to select each At-Large member.

Applications will be accepted through Wednesday May 21, 2025.

Where does USA Field Hockey fit with other hockey organizations?
