VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Twenty-four of the top U-14 club teams from across the country gathered at the Virginia Beach Regional Training Center and Princess Anne Athletic Complex in Virginia Beach, Va. for the 2024 U-14 Girls National Club Championship (NCC), presented by YOLO Sportswear.

Teams battled it out over three days in the heat, with reigning champion WC Eagles again claiming the title of best in the nation. The competition was matched with camaraderie, including a building sense of excitement for the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

After pool play and day two crossovers, the semifinals ended up as WC Eagles against Next Level PA and Central Penn Field Hockey (CPFH) against AGH. Three out of the final four teams hailed from the state of Pennsylvania, with AGH representing the state of Connecticut. WC Eagles and AGH advanced to the final, leaving Next Level PA and CPFH to battle it out in the bronze medal match.

The battle for bronze was a nail-biter until the very end. CPFH and Next Level PA played a tight back-and-forth match, with Martin Adelyn (Lititz, Pa.) finally breaking the stalemate halfway through the first half on a penalty stroke opportunity to give Next Level PA the 1-0 lead. Next Level PA would hold onto that lead for much of the game, but not long enough. CPFH’s Anna Keim (Etters, Pa.) found space in the circle and knocked a one-time shot into the back of the net to even the score 1-1. The match ended and headed into shootouts, where CPFH was able to finally take the win and the bronze medal.

In the championship match, WC Eagles faced familiar foe AGH. The lead went to WC Eagles early, with Vivienne Serafin (Camp Hill, Pa.) tipping one in on the post in the second minute. AGH would not go down easy, tying it up at the 8-minute mark on a penalty corner when Juliette Ring (Wilton, Conn.) flipped it in backhand. After a penalty corner chance, WC Eagles earned a penalty stroke, which Georgiana Kondrath (Downingtown, Pa.) scored to give her team the go-ahead goal right before halftime. Kondrath added to that lead to make it 3-1, WC Eagles, with a shot from the top of the circle in the second half. With three minutes left to play, Lucy Jones (Media, Pa.) nailed an impressive reverse chip into the net to put WC Eagles up 4-1 over AGH. Matilda Lutte (Lower Gwynedd) got on the scoreboard for one more WC Eagles goal, as they defeated AGH 5-1 and took home gold for the 12th consecutive time.

Unfortunately, due to weather delays, the final day of matches was cut short, as teams headed back home after competing at the highest level.

USA Field Hockey would like to congratulate all of this year's U-14 Girls National Club Championship teams, athletes, and coaches who participated! And thank you to the umpires, technical staff, umpire managers and volunteers who continue to make NCC a success.

Play in Virginia Beach continues this week with the U-16 and U-19 Girls age divisions. For more information about the 2024 National Club Championship, visit the Event Page.
