Indoor USWNT Beats No. 2 Czechia at Rohrmax Cup

VIENNA, Austria – The No. 9 U.S. Women’s National Indoor Team beat higher ranked No. 2 Czechia in their fourth match of the 2025 Rohrmax Cup in Vienna, Austria. A close contest through the first three quarters, USA pulled away in the final frame for a comfortable 7-3 win.

Midway through the first quarter Czechia opened the scoring after converting off a penalty corner. USA didn’t let up and with 20 seconds to go before the break, Reese D’Ariano (West Chester, Pa.) found the back of the goal to even it at 1-1.

Two minutes into the second period, Czechia scored to go up one after quick passing got it around USA goalkeeper Liz Tamburro (Phoenixville, Pa.). Moments later a close chance came for USA after Erin Matson (Chadds Ford, Pa.) picked it off in the defensive end, ran it forward and got it to D’Ariano, who forced Czechia’s goalkeeper to the ground to make the stop. The final 2 minutes were all D’Ariano after she found the equalizer and then the go ahead for USA. She first tallied off a penalty corner, then had an individual run under pressure that got past Czechia’s goalkeeper. The United Eagles held a 3-2 lead going into the break.

To start the third, Czechia tied it up at the 21:30 mark off a set piece. The middle portion of the quarter was static before USA took the lead in the 28th minute when Sydney Mandato (Telford, Pa.) flipped it over the goalkeeper for the 4-3 lead.

USA added three more goals in the final frame to secure the 7-3 win. The first came in the 33rd minute when D’Ariano set Sofia Ferri (Phoenixville, Pa.) up for a deflection. Next, 6 minutes later, D’Ariano flipped it into the net. Lastly with 40 seconds to go, D’Ariano scored a reassurance goal an open Czechia net for the 7-3 victory. Credit to the USA defensive unit who remained solid throughout the game to fend off a threatening Czechia side.

The Eagles finished second in Pool A and will face No. 10 Poland at 11:20 a.m. ET in the semifinals.
